The Southeast Community College men's golf team is heading to the NJCAA DII Men's National Championship for the second straight year!
After an impressive season with three team wins and seven top-three finishes, the Bobcats are heading to Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana to compete in the national championship after receiving an at-large bid at the North Central District Championship.
"I'm excited to be returning to nationals, especially at Swan Lake, a familiar site," Head Coach Calvin Freeman said. "Four players traveling to nationals competed on the same course last year, so we'll have experience going in. We shot our best round of the tournament in the final round last year, so hopefully that carries over to this year."
SCC has the two top-ranked golfers in the region on the squad this year.
Hayden Delaloye, out of Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada, and
Cael Peters of Mitchell, Nebraska. The duo each had a win in the season and combined for five top-three finishes individually.
The season began with two straight top finishes. In September, SCC won the Blue River Classic, which included NAIA competition, and Delaloye took champion honors. The following week the Bobcats tied for the top spot at the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff, where Peters took first place. The men's team only finished outside of the top four at one tournament this year, and collected another win at the Waterloo Intercollegiate on April 17.
"I think we have a pretty great chance of winning nationals if we all play to what we're capable of," Delaloye said.
Now, the squad prepares for another appearance in the national tournament, where just last year they turned heads by finishing tied for ninth after receiving an at-large bid.
"It's a long week, so we have to pace ourselves and trust that we have a solid game plan going in," Freeman said. "More than anything, this is great exposure for our guys wishing to move on after SCC, and an experience that they will have for the rest of their lives."
