LINCOLN, NE — Rain was no hindrance on the Men's Golf team as they finished in second place among competition from a range of divisions at the Blue River Classic at Highlands Golf Course on Wednesday and Thursday. The tournament consisted of 54 holes, with 36 played on Wednesday and 18 on Thursday. 

Wednesday morning saw rain and overcast skies, but SCC came out to a strong start in the first 18 holes with five golfers finishing under par. Tate Redinger and Cael Peters fired near-perfect first rounds with only one bogey each. Redinger led the team at 5-under with a 67, and Cael Peters was right behind him with a 68. Newcomers Cooper Fedderson and Nash Malone both shot 70 to head into round two 2-under par.

The top four all played the front nine bogey-free with 14 birdies shared among them.The Bobcats finished the first round with a one stroke lead over the field at 13-under par. Redinger trailed the individual leader by two strokes after the first round, and Peters trailed by three.

The second round was a bit tougher for the Bobcats as conditions and exhaustion began to become a factor. Only Peters and Jack Donovan finished under par at 6-under and 2-under respectively. Peters recorded eagles on two of the four par-5s on his way to tie the second-lowest 18-hole score of the tournament. Donovan had five birdies and three bogies on his way to a 70, and Nash Malone was 3-under through 10 holes before finishing the day with an even 72.

After round two, SCC trailed the lead by seven strokes after a commanding performance by Indian Hills Community College. Peters was solidly in second place after 36 holes as he and Evan Monaghan of Indian Hills pulled away from the field, with Monaghan leading by three strokes.

Round three began Thursday morning, and Eli Jones took advantage of a fresh start. After being over par in both of the first rounds, Jones shot a 4-under 68 to finish at even par through 54 holes. Peters and Malone continued their march towards the top with a 68 and a 69 respectively, and Malone once again kept a clean sheet on the front nine with three birdies. Peters finished the tournament with just five bogeys through 54 holes.

SCC ended the tournament with a total score of -22 (842) to edge out Nebraska Wesleyan by a single stroke to be team runner-up. Peters also finished in second place after cutting the lead to a single stroke in an impressive performance.
