Plymouth, Ind. - The Southeast Community College men's golf team started hot at the NJCAA DII Men's Golf National Championship on Tuesday. Playing at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Indiana, the team sat tied with Murray State for the lead after 18 holes.

Cael Peters, the No. 2 ranked golfer in the region, started with a clean slate of four straight pars, before an eagle on the fifth hole took him to two under. He recorded a bogey his next hole and finished the front nine at 1-under par. He went on to shoot four birdies in his last seven holes to finish the day at 5-under par, good for a tie at second place individually and only one stroke behind the leader after the first round.

Dylan Dahlstedt started the day with a bogey, but kept the rest of the front nine clean with one birdie to be even-par after nine. After a bit of a roller coaster on the final nine holes, Dahlstedt finished the day 1-over par and tied for 15th in the field.

Tate Redinger and Hayden Delaloye wrapped up their first round shooting 2-over 74 each, leaving them tied for 26th. Nick Fleming shot 5-over 77 to round out the Bobcat golfers on the first day of the four day tournament. The team will play 54 holes over the next three days, aiming to improve on their ninth-place finish at the tournament last year.

The top four individual scores combine to give SCC a team score of even-par 288 after 18 holes. The Bobcats are four strokes ahead of the next team and sit tied for first place with Murray State College in Oklahoma.
