Bobcat Men Collect Runner-Up, Women Show Improvement at Nebraska Intercollegiate

CAIRO, NE -- In one of the few golf tournaments so far this fall with clear weather, the SCC men's and women's golf teams competed at the Nebraska Intercollegiate at Centura Hills Golf Club in Cairo, Nebraska on Monday and Tuesday.

The men came out to a roaring start in the first round. Tate Redinger started the tournament with three straight birdies, and notched his fourth birdie on the sixth hole, a par-3 over water. He was still 4 under par at the turn, and kept his cool and carded a 2-under-par 70. Redinger was the only golfer under par after 18 holes.

Cael Peters had a roller coaster start, and finished the first round with a 75 to sit in third through 18 holes. Nash Malone recorded an 81 in the first round, and Jack Donavan carded 87. The men sat in second place as a team at 313, just six strokes behind Doane after round one.

On Tuesday, Peters began his charge for the top. Through 12 holes he was 3 under par, and after a couple rough holes he came into the clubhouse with an even-par 72 for a 36-hole total of 147. Redinger didn't record a birdie in the second round, but a mostly-clean front nine kept him in the lead. Three straight bogeys from holes 11-13 put him behind by a stroke, and a bogey on the 17th hole sealed his second place finish. He brought a 77 to the clubhouse to tie Peters as runner-up at 147.

Cooper Feddersen shot 74 with two birdies on the front nine to count towards the team total in round two, and Jack Donavan improved six strokes to card an 81. The team finished with a 36 hole total of 617 to claim runner-up behind Doane University. The SCC men were the top community college finishers and defeated several NAIA opponents in the outing.

"It was a great tournament from Peters and Redinger," Men's Head Coach Calvin Freeman said. "Both had a chance to win down the stretch, so it was good to see them experience those nerves and pressure. For the rest of the group, we have to be able to adjust to different course conditions and troubleshoot during a round. We'll revisit some of our strategy before the ICCAC Match Play next week, and I'm excited to work on some areas and dial in everyone's equipment this offseason."

For the women, Charli Sievers carded consecutive rounds of 95 to shoot 170. In the second round, she recorded birdies on two of four par-5s on the back nine to shoot 40, her lowest 9-hole score of the season. She finished in 32nd.

All three other Bobcat women improved in the second round of their final fall tournament. Olivia Barta recorded scores of 100 and 97 for a 36-hole total of 197, Kendall Consbruck shot 110-99 to finish with 209, and Izzy Svec shot 116 in the first round and 110 in the second to finish with 226.
