SCC Golf Teams Push Through Elements at Iowa Central

Fort Dodge, IA – The men's and women's golf teams fought through several weather delays at the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff on Tuesday. The women finished in second out of three teams at the meet, and the men rallied to a third-place finish among 16 community college from Iowa and the area.

The Bobcats were led on the women's side by last year's national qualifier Charli Sievers, who recorded a birdie and six pars to finish with an 86. She was followed by Olivia Barta with a 93 and Kendall Consbruck with a 98.

SCC finished five strokes behind Iowa Central and two strokes ahead of North Iowa Area Community College. They played through rain for the first 14 holes before waiting through a three-hour lightning delay. When given the all clear, they played the final four holes just before dark in high winds.

"On a very trying day it was great to see all the girls continue to compete through adversity," Women's Golf Head Coach Ross Eickhoff said. "We were in contention the whole way among two teams that qualified for nationals last year."

The SCC men were led by Cooper Feddersen, who started with two bogeys in the first three holes. He quickly turned it around with a birdie on No. 6. He finished the front 2-over, but Feddersen shot a clean back nine with a birdie on No. 16 and finished at 1-over with a 72 and tied for second place.

Jack Donovan also recorded two birdies and finished one stroke behind Feddersen in a tie for fifth, and Nash Malone shot 5-over 76.

The Bobcats finished in third place, just three strokes behind Iowa Lakes Community College.

"There are always teachable moments when the weather isn't great, so it was nice to get that experience early in the year," Men's Golf Head Coach Calvin Freeman said. "Margins are pretty thin in our district, so it was a lesson in the effects of a single stroke towards the overall result."

The SCC women's golf team is back in action Sept. 26-27 at the Peru State Invite, and the men's team next travel to Columbus on Sept. 28 for the Central Community College Fall Invite.
