Luna Series Recap Courtesy Tyson Parks, Associate Head Baseball Coach:
Game 1: 5-2 Luna CC win:
"We weren't as sharp as we'd like or needed to be on the mound starting the game." "We scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning and we didn't do a good enough job of making them earn it back." "We spotted them their 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning, yet we still had chances to score runs to make up for that, and we simply didn't get the job done after the first inning offensively." "It was one of those games, we just couldn't right the wrongs."
Game 2: 14-2 SCC win:
"
Garrett White went complete game, 8 innings, throwing only 73 pitches total in his W." "Offense pounded out 17 hits in a 14-2 victory shortened by the run rule."
Game 3: 6-5 SCC win:
"
Jaxson Cahoy and
Reed McConnell combined for the 7 inning W. Both were sharp in the game with Jaxson earning the W and Reed the save." "We built a 6-2 lead and battled through some snow flurries and high winds during the game to secure the 6-5 W to take a 2-1 series lead heading into game 4."
Game 4: 12-2 SCC win:
"The offense came back to life and again scored 12 runs in the game, allowing us to win the series 3 games to 1." "
Ben Ayala was outstanding out of the pen for us, throwing 6 scoreless innings after starter
Willard Peterson was chased from the game in the 1st inning after surrendering two runs without recording an out." "
Will Flege and
Cael Clancy tossed the final 3 scoreless innings for us in the game."
Additionally:
"We talk all the time about how we're going to handle adversity and overcome it together. In each of the last two weekend series, we've dropped game 1 and have had to come back to win them both 3 games to 1. It's nice to see our players respond that way. But, we need to be sharper in game 1 in all phases of it." "That said, the kids have put us in a great position at 10-2 in the Empire Conference. The next three weekends in conference play are at home at the "C", and we're ready to be at home and play in front of our fans." "We're proud of the guys for the way they've hung in there and continued to battle together. We still have a long way to go in this thing." "Hopefully, the weather will continue to improve and we will continue to get better each time out in order to play our best in May."
"Thanks to our fans who have traveled with us this all year to this point. We appreciate the support, and we're looking forward to seeing more of you at the "C" in April!"
