History was made on August 18, when Lincoln Carpet Land Post 500 became the first Nebraska team to win the American Legion World Series since 1939.

Now, a week later, three players from that team are suiting up for fall baseball with the Bobcats: Greyson Bjorkman, Abe Christensen, and Trevor Roach.

"It was fun being able to go out there and compete for a team bigger than just one school," Bjorkman said. "We went out there with Nebraska on our chest. It was important for us to compete and do well."

Bjorkman threw 5 1/3 innings of relief in the 9-6 comeback win in the championship over Portland Post 158, including the final strikeout that landed him at the bottom of the dogpile on the field.

He was on the team all four years of high school, and finally got to raise the trophy with the team in his final season.

"We were already there, so we might as well win it," Bjorkman said. "We knew if we played a good game, we were going to get the job done, and that's what we did."

Christensen spent the summer as a reliever, and is looking forward to taking the next step with some of his Legion teammates.

"We've built good bonds, and we're coming to college a little bit away from home," Christensen said. "It's a little bit of a change, but it's nice that we have each other together again, and to be there for each other on and off the field."

Tuesday night they were champions. On Friday they were practicing with the Bobcats. Christensen said that last year's returners like Jordan Lemon and Crew Moeller are showing them the ways of the team and the culture.

"I'm really looking forward to competing against some of the top teams in JUCO," Christensen said. "I've heard the competition's good and the guys can swing it. I'm ready to go out there, show what I can do, and try to be seen."

Roach plays third base and joined Carpet Land his junior year. They also made the world series in his first season, but fell short of the national title. After another year and a big win, he's excited to work into the system the Parks brothers have built at SCC.

"I love it, I think they've got a great system going," Roach said. "They're all in for hard work and giving it your all, and I'm glad I'm here."
