The SCC Baseball team traveled to Iowa Western CC for a 4 game series last weekend. The Cat's lost game one 12-2, won game two 4-1, lost game three 5-3 in 8 innings, and lost game 4 19-9 in 7 innings. Associate Head Coach
Tyson Parks provides a recap.
"It was a great weekend to play baseball. We feel like we continue to find things out about our team." "We set the games up like a tournament format to play the games over three days. Every game was competitive." "In games 1 and 4, we need to be more competitive in the strike zone late in those games. We took ourselves out of those games by not throwing enough strikes in the later innings, and that doesn't end up going well for a team. It's the last thing you want to do against anybody you play."
"Games 2 and 3 were both high level games on both sides. We did a really good job of commanding the strike zone in game 2, and found a way to break through late in game two offensively. Down 1-0 entering the 7th, we loaded the bases with nobody out. Jadyn Martinex=z then delivered a grand slam to right field to give us a 4 to 1 lead." "
Will Flege continued to shut the door on them in the bottom half of the inning to split the first two games of the series."
"In game 3, it was another good baseball game that was a pitching dual between two teams. The game was tied 3-3 entering the bottom half of the 8th inning. After a lead off single by IWCC, we had an error that followed that. They sacrificed the runners over to 2nd and 3rd with one out, and the next batter delivered a 2 run double. The game was then suspended and eventually not resumed the next day due to an unfortunate incident that occurred, resulting in stopping game 3. So, game 3 went to IWCC 5-3."
SERIES OVERVIEW:Â Â Â "It was a good series for us to play. IWCC has a good team, but so do we. We have to do a better job of preventing big innings late in games, and that starts with throwing more strikes, and making the opposing hitters earn their way on base." "Offensively, we have to be able to recognize what opponents are doing on the mound, and be willing to make adjustments during the game." "Again, our fan support was really good. We always appreciate the support we get."
UP NEXT: "We're heading back to Texas for a 4 game series with Ranger College. The 1st game is Thursday at 1pm. We'll play a double header on Friday, the last game will be on Saturday.
