The Southeast CC Baseball Team opening the season with a 9 to 7 win over Odessa last weekend. They dropped the final two games of the series 15 to 6, and 16 to 6.
Associate Head Coach
Tyson Parks recaps the series:
"It was a long road trip down there, but well worth it. The weather was outstanding. The games were good for us. We got it started." "We found out some things about our team. We know we can certainly be better in every phase of the game." "There are always things that can be improved no matter how you play." "We used 13 pitchers over the course of the three games, which is good. We also got every position player to the plate at least once during the series." "We competed hard in every game."
GAME 1:
"Game 1 was a really good game. It wasn't perfect, but we found ways to keep scoring, and apply pressure on the offensive side. Our pitchers also competed well, and locked the game down at the end." "After winning the first game, we didn't finish the last two games the way we're capable, and that part was frustrating."
GAME 2:
"Game 2 was a 7 to 6 game headed to the bottom of the 8th inning. We let it get away from us on the mound that inning, and the game got spread out."
GAME 3:
"In game 3, our offense had just rallied to tie the game at 6 headed into the bottom of the 5th inning. Then, we had an inning we all want to forget on the mound, and game 3 quickly got away again."
FINAL THOUGHTS:
"Credit Odessa and their staff for being able to take advantage of those things in game 2 and 3. They have a good team. It was a great opportunity for us to play them." "We really had good fan support in Texas on opening weekend, and we are looking forward to seeing more of our fans this weekend." "We know we're more capable of finishing games better than we did last weekend. That will improve as we keep playing." "Our team needs to stay disciplined, and focused on doing the things we need to do to turn the ballgame into a game that reflects our style of play on both sides of the baseball."
WHAT'S AHEAD:
SCC plays Iowa Western for a 4 game series. "It's another great series for us to go play. We just need to get back out there and continue pushing forward. We know that IWCC does a great job with their program, and they'll certainly be a tough opponent. We're looking forward to the challenge."
"As always, Go Cats!
