Elliott Peterson Commits to Arkansas

7/8/2024
Former Southeast CC Catcher Elliott Peterson has parlayed a stellar career with the Bobcats into a commitment to play at the University of Arkansas in the powerhouse SEC conference. Peterson was the batting average leader in the JUCO ranks with a .517 average during his junior season. He knocked in 15 homers on the year as well. Peterson spoke with SCC Sports Information about the commitment.

SCCSI: How did this play out for you?
Peterson: "Growing up, I've always been an Arkansas fan, and I've had the opportunity to see them play at the CWS many times, so it's always been a dream school of mine. Yesterday after spending time on the campus and meeting with the coaches, I knew it was home."
SCCSI: What stood out in your decision?
Peterson: "First of all, it's the coaches. They were very honest and told me how it is, and I loved that about them. Going down there and realizing that I'll have a shot to earn it and be the starting catcher there next year, it was everything I've ever imagined. That made the decision for me."
SCCSI: Could things have gone any better for you last year at SCC?
Peterson: "Honestly, it still blows my mind. It was a blast. I was just trying to have the most fun I could, and by the end of the year I looked at my stats, and everything really came together for me as a baseball player."
SCCSI: How much have you improved during your time at SCC?
Peterson: "It's a place where you have to go down there and work if you want to move on, and I felt like the coaches really pushed me everyday, and they made me feel like it was home, but they also told me if I want to pursue my dreams, I have to go out there and work. SCC was an amazing spot, the coaches were awesome, but it was the every day grind that really made it fun."
SCCSI: You're going to the SEC, a high profile program, this is a great opportunity for you.
Peterson: "Yeah, I took advantage of my situation at SCC, and I feel like, no matter where you are, you just have to take advantage of the situation as best you can. I think the SCC coaches were really good at making sure you have fun with the game, but you respect the game. You have to respect the grind if you're going to make it.
SCCSI: What area of study will you be taking up?
Peterson: "I think I'm going to get into something with sports science or communication. After my career, I'd like to get into coaching. Baseball is something I don't want to step away from. If I'm able to go out and coach at the college level, I'd love to be able to do that.
