A 1976 graduate of Beatrice, NE High School, Coach Schlake played baseball and basketball for the Orangeman. He attended Northwest Missouri State University(Maryville, MO) for three years before graduating from University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a B.S. in Animal Science. Coach Schlake has been an instructor with the SCC Agricultural program for twenty-seven years.
Coach Schlake begins his eighth year as Head Coach for the Storm. The 2022-23 season brought Team success as they claimed the NJCAA Region 9 regular season and tournament championships. This qualified them to play for the Northwest Plains District Championship game, which they lost to United Tribes Technical College 77-83.This past season saw several players being recognized for their season effort: Freshman Matalynn Campbell from Lincoln, NE (Lincoln East HS) being named a National Junior College Athletic All American (Division 2) third Team, Nebraska All Conference and All Region 9, Sophomore Kaylee Klover from Wymore, NE (Southern HS) , and Sophomore Jordan Koehler from Johnson, NE (Johnson/Brock HS), Nebraska All Conference and All Region 9. Also Sophomore Hannah Macke from Baileyville, KS ( Nemaha Central) being named All region 9. Three players also signed to play at 4- year schools which include Doane University, Hastings College, and Nebraska Wesleyan University. To top the season off eight Storm were named Academic All-Americans and the Team was recognized as an All-American Academic Team with a 3.6Team GPA. Under his leadership as Co-Head Coach and Head Coach the Storm have claimed 4 Regional IX Championships, one Nebraska Junior College Conference Championship, 19 NJCAA All-Conference Players, 19 All-Region 9 players , 3 Athletic All-American Players (Morgan Frauendorfer 2018-19, Hunter Hartshorn 2021-22, and Matalynn Campbell 2022-23) 48 Academic All-Americans, and 6 Academic All-American Teams.
As the men’s assistant coach for eleven years he was part of two National Championship Academic Teams (08-09, 09-10) and 8 individual Academic All-Americans. He also was instrumental in helping the Storm reach the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in 07-08, and 14-15. Included also was the involvement in the development of three Athletic All-Americans. He has specialized in the development of the post players and team defensive strategies. Lynn has been involved with basketball all his life from playing, youth coach, AAU coach, and officiating High School and College games. As a youth, and AAU coach he helped develop more than 20 plus athletes that went on to play at the collegiate level.
Currently Lynn and his wife Nancy call Beatrice their home. Their three children which include Brandon (Erin), Jayme Wood (Garrett), and Kyle (Courtney), were all involved in athletics at the college level and all are graduates of Northwest Missouri State University. Included are six granddaughters and five grandsons who are also involved in sports. In their spare time Lynn and his wife Nancy like to travel, play golf, and spoil their grandchildren.
