Joel Wooton is a seasoned coach with an impressive 43-year career, 19 of which have been dedicated to SCC. With a wealth of experience and expertise, Joel has left an indelible mark on the world of coaching.
His leadership abilities were recognized when he was elected to prestigious positions within the NJCAA Coaches Association. Serving as President for two years, Vice President for two years, and Division 2 Representative for three years, Joel actively contributed to the growth and development of the coaching community.
Joel's coaching prowess is evident through his remarkable achievements. He successfully guided three teams to the NJCAA national tournament, while also providing instrumental support to the women's team, leading them to the NJCAA tournament on two occasions. Additionally, he made history by taking Iowa Wesleyan to their first-ever national tournament appearance, a significant milestone for the institution.
The pursuit of excellence extends beyond the court for Joel. He boasts an impressive record of three District championships and eight Region championships. Furthermore, two of his teams were recognized as National Academic Teams of the Year, reflecting Joel's commitment to fostering a balanced environment that emphasizes both academic achievement and athletic success.
Individually, Joel has coached ten All Americans, athletes who have achieved remarkable distinction in their respective disciplines. Moreover, he has nurtured the academic aspirations of over 40 student-athletes, guiding them to become Academic All Americans.
In his personal life, Joel is happily married to Vicki, and together they have raised three wonderful daughters: Ashley Waid, Lindsey Wooton, and Whitney Wooton. Welcoming the joys of grandparenthood, they are blessed with a grandson named Liam. Adding to the family dynamic are their two dogs, Maddie (Golden Retriever) and Charlie (Cocker Spaniel).
