Bobcats Find Late Success at Red Raven Volleyball Tournament

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — The Bobcats faced challenging competition at the Red Raven Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, ending with three losses and one win over the course of the tournament.

In the opening match, SCC lost to Labette Community College 3-0. The Bobcats took the first set past 25 points before falling 26-28, then dropped the next two sets 20-25 and 20-25. 

The Bobcats finished with 38 kills while the Cardinals recorded 33, and SCC hit .133 against Labette's .135.

Alivia Clemmons led SCC with 12 kills, hitting .556, and added four block assists. Brecklyn Hammond contributed 16 assists, two service aces, and five digs, while Neveah Vacha collected 13 digs and three service aces. Hope Preston added nine kills and a block assist.

Later on Friday, SCC faced Independence Community College and suffered a 3-1 defeat, with set scores of 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, and 14-25. The Bobcats finished this match with 41 kills, 10 service aces, and 82 digs.

Clemmons had another strong match with 11 kills at .435 hitting, alongside two block assists. Mara Franke stood out with a team-high 21 assists, eight digs, and one ace. Vacha stayed comfortable in the back row with 20 digs and five service aces, while Hayden Shaw contributed 19 assists and 17 digs.

On Saturday, SCC faced a 9 a.m. first serve and fell 3-1 to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College with set scores of 19-25, 25-17, 5-25, and 18-25.

Ella Waters led SCC with 11 kills and two block assists. Shaw had a standout performance with 20 assists, four service aces, and recorded two kills on two attacks. Vacha recorded 17 digs and a service ace, while Clemmons added five kills with a .308 hitting percentage and three block assists.

In the Bobcats final bout of the tournament, they found success against Coffeyville Community College, winning 3-1 with set scores of 25-20, 13-25, 25-14, and 25-23. The Bobcats finished the match with 44 kills, eight service aces, and 77 digs, closing with 14 kills and a .257 hitting percentage in the fourth set.

Vacha saved her best performance for last with 27 digs and a service ace. Franke contributed 24 assists and six digs, while Preston recorded 10 kills on 26 attacks. Paige Slingsby also had a notable performance with nine kills and three service aces for 12 points.

Up next, the SCC volleyball team travels to Sioux City, Iowa, to face Northeast Community College and Western Iowa Tech on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at 4 p.m.
