SCC Softball Sweeps Western Nebraska

Box Score 1 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 After weather delayed the weekend series, Western Nebraska Community College visited Hannibal Park Softball Complex in Beatrice on Monday and Tuesday. SCC won all four matchups to earn their third series sweep of the season and jump to a record of 22-15.

In Game 1, the Bobcats opened with a strong defensive effort when Brett Young caught a foul ball and turned it to first base to make a double play. The Cougars would score a run on a double, and SCC responded with a sacrifice fly from Keira Carswell that scored Lexi Paskach.

After the first inning the Bobcats held WNCC scoreless, and thanks to five runs scored in the third inning, SCC cruised to a 7-1 victory. Young, Gracie Moe and Vanessa Butler each scored a run in the third inning frenzy, and Seinna McEntire scored two.

Paskach recorded four hits in four at-bats for the Bobcats, and Kinsley Mohan started on the mound. Mohan notched seven strikeouts in six innings before Addisyn Thompson threw an inning shutout in relief.

Game 2 saw SCC hold off the Cougars again, despite a late charge in the seventh inning. Three doubles from the first three batters got the Bobcats to an early 2-0 lead, with Tatum Heimerman, Paskach and Reyse Zobel each connecting.

A home run in the third inning from Zobel extended SCC's lead, and after four innings the score was 5-0.

McEntire threw six and a third scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Thompson came in to relieve, and the Cougars rallied four runs on four hits before Zobel caught WNCC trying to steal home to end the game. The final score was 6-4.

On Friday the Bobcats opened the scoring in the first inning again, this time after an error. The Cougars scored a run in each of the second and third innings to take their first lead of the series, but it wouldn't last long.

In the fifth inning, WNCC scored two more runs to bring their lead to 4-1, but a McEntire double and a triple from Brittney Isbell scored two runs each to make it 5-4.

A Young home run in the sixth made it 7-4, and that would be the final score.

Mohan was on the mound again, and threw six and two thirds innings and struck out three batters.

SCC again found themselves trailing early in Game 4 as the Cougars jumped to an early 4-1 lead after two innings. Another Zobel home run and a Moe single contributed to a four-run fourth inning that put the Bobcats back in the lead 7-5.

The Bobcats held onto their lead with two more runs scored in the sixth, but a triple and an RBI ground out tied the game at 9-9 heading to the bottom of the seventh. An error by the Cougars shortstop scored Heimerman, giving SCC a walk-off win 10-9.

The Bobcats are in action again on Friday and Saturday at home against North Platte Community College.
