Calvin Freeman

Calvin Freeman, originally from Table Rock, Nebraska, comes to SCC as the Men’s Golf Coach after Bill Campbell announced his retirement after 32 years of duty. Calvin played for the Storm from 2011-2013 under Coach Campbell and earned First-Team NJCAA All-American honors in both his freshman and sophomore campaigns, finishing sixth as a freshman and tied for second as a sophomore in the NJCAA National Golf Championships.

After his time at SCC, he moved on to the University of Nebraska, where he competed as a member of the Husker team. At Nebraska, the Big Ten Conference selected him to their “Players to Watch” list during both his junior and senior seasons. In addition, he led the Husker team in scoring average during his senior campaign.

After his graduation at Nebraska, Coach Freeman turned professional and played various mini tours around the country for four years, carrying a career 69.4 scoring average. Highlights of his professional career include victories at the John Mullen Pro-Am and the Firethorn Pro-Member.

Coach Freeman brings a deep understanding of the golf swing to his players. He has received instruction and guidance from many of the top instructors and college coaches in the country. In addition, he has certification to teach with Trackman, the industry standard technology in modern golf instruction.

In his first year as a head coach, he led the Storm to a 9th place finish at the NJCAA National Championships at Swan Lake Resort in Indiana. From the 2019-2020 season to the 2020-2021 season, every player on the SCC roster improved their stroke average by at least two strokes, with All-American Geronimo Narizzano improving from 77.6 strokes per round to 71.8. In his short tenure, Coach Freeman has already had two First-Team All-Americans, led by Geronimo Narizzano's runner-up finish at the 2022 NJCAA National Championship in Joplin, Missouri.

In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Freeman is the Physical Education Instructor and Social Science Chair at SCC’s Beatrice Campus. He received his B.A. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2016 and his M.S. in Physical Education at the University of West Alabama in 2019.
